What We Do >> Children's Services
My Sisters' Place (MSP) is continually expanding to effectively respond to the increasing and changing needs of individuals in crisis. Our continued commitment to ending family violence includes a renewed focus on preventing future abuse and assisting the hundreds of children and adolescents we serve every year who have both witnessed and experienced violence in their homes.
Children’s Programs & Services
- Individual & Group Counseling aims to reduce symptoms related to trauma or to experiences of violence by providing a space where children can feel safe to explore feelings that effect daily living and regain a sense of safety, acceptance, and unconditional regard.
- Children’s Advocacy services for children living in shelter or in the community ease their transition after leaving a violent home and help reduce the effects of trauma resulting from domestic violence. Includes support services, resources, referrals, and assistance with school enrollment.
- Robbie’s Room art therapy program provides school-age children with a safe and supportive environment to express themselves and explore their feelings. Self-esteem and social skills are strengthened through a wide variety of creative art projects.
- Child Care Services for parents who utilize services—such as Life Skills, training, counseling, and legal—at our offices.
Teen Programs & Services
- Individual Counseling & Support Groups provide teens with the opportunity to explore their personal experiences with violence and strengthen their coping mechanisms and strategies to prevent intimate partner violence in their own lives.
- Domestic Violence Education and Prevention Program (DVEP) is a holistic, youth-centered prevention program that uses four components to address teen dating violence: classroom educational presentations, individual sessions, rap sessions, and peer education/leadership development. DVEP serves middle and high school students throughout Westchester County.
-
Students Advocating For Equality in Relationships (S.A.F.E.R.) trains students to act as peer educators and leaders. Students meet regularly to participate in in-depth education about the roots, causes, manifestations, and responses to domestic violence and teen dating abuse.
